Iran launches F-14 fighter jets in 'western skies' after US air strike.According to the country's state television, the IRAN landed its fighter jet in response to the assassination of leader Qasem Soleimani in the US air strike.
The fighter jet launch, which has renewed fears of World War 3, comes after a US attack by Trump that killed a prominent Iranian military leader in Baghdad. Airstrike killed General Qasem Soleimani in an attack that increased tension between Washington and Tehran. Citing Iranian state television, NBC News correspondent Ali Aurozzi tweeted: "Iranian F14 fighter jets maneuver over western skies and on alert and patrol. State TV".
Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Twitter, "America is responsible for all the consequences of its evil adventurism."
Washington confirmed that American forces had killed the general.
He claimed that the general had approved attacks on the US embassy in Baghdad earlier this week.
He said in a statement: "This strike was aimed at stopping future Iranian attack plans".
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said his death would make Iran "more decisive" against Washington and Donald Trump.
He said on state television: "Soleimani's martyrdom will make Iran more decisive to oppose US expansionism and defend our Islamic values".
