Team India won the first match of the three-Test series played at the Rajasekhara Reddy Stadium in Visakhapatnam by 203 runs. With this victory, the Indian team, which is number one in the rankings of the Test Championship, has strengthened its grip. Team India is the only team to win all their matches in the Test Championship so far.
By winning the Visakhapatnam Test, Team India retained the first place in the World Test Championship with 160 points, while New Zealand, Sri Lanka on the third, Australia on the fourth and England on the fifth place. It is known that India had defeated the West Indies 2–0 in the two-match Test series.
Out of the three Test series played under the World Test Championship so far, only India has won all their matches of the series. Sri Lanka and New Zealand equalized the two-match series 1–1 and they each have 60 points, while the five-match Ashes series between England and Australia were lost 2–2. Both teams have 56-56 points. India had won both the matches against the West Indies and also won the first match of the series against South Africa.
The championship was started by the International Cricket Council (ICC) with an aim to increase the popularity of Test cricket. Team India has a golden opportunity to gain a big edge in this championship on the ground.
Winning a match in a two-match series gives 60 points. Winning a match in a three-match series gives 40 points. A win of one match in a four-match series fetches 30 points. At the same time, winning a match in a five-match series gives 24 points. Apart from this, a match has got 8-8 points to draw.
